Mrs Manley's
Mrs Manley's was a confectionery and general store located at 74 St. Mary's Road until around the early 1990s. The shop was in the Manley family for at least two generations; firstly Mr. & Mrs. F.E. Manley, then their only child Ena; these details being confirmed by means of an engagement notice confirming that Ena was engaged to James Griffin of Leicester[1].
Number 74 had appeared in an auction for the freehold of the property in March of 1905, the building being part of a lot of twenty properties bringing in an annual rent of £450[2]. Prior to this, the shop would have appeared to have been an 'Oil, Glass, Colour and General Merchant'; this closing in 1895 when the fixtures and fittings were auctioned[3].
The property was converted into a pair of maisonettes in 1991/2[4].
