Purpose: Given a string, this returns a shorter form of the page name
- This automates production of the right hand side of the following links:
- [[La Salle county, Texas | La Salle county]].
- [[Obama (surname) | Obama]]
Related template: Template:Shortlink performs a similar function producing the shortlink given a page value.
Behavior
- if null operand, return nothing
- if the page does not exist or no short name property then
- prune to left of first paren or first comma
- if shortname, use this as left hand side of link.
